FTC08 - Navigating SA's Education Laws

Register Now | Online FTC Fundamentals Training Centre Developing an in-depth understanding of laws and policies governing the South African education system

All public schools and most institutions in South Africa involved in the creation and implementation of education policy are classified as organs of state and must therefore comply with all the provisions of the Bill of Rights. Various laws regulate the manner in which public schools are meant to discharge their duties. In order to discharge their statutory duties properly, educators need to have some understanding of the principles of education and administrative laws. If they act contrary to the principles of administrative law, then decisions made by them may be set aside by the courts. The course is designed, hopefully, to achieve a higher objective and that is to equip educators to make reasonable, lawful and fair decisions at source

Topics covered include:

  • The Constitution Act No 108 of 1996.
  • The National Education Policy Act No 27 of 1996.
  • The South African Schools Act No 84 of 1996.
  • The Employment of Educators Act No 76 of 1996.
  • Who should attend this course?
All school principals, deputy principals, head of department, educators, education specialist, university or college lectures, educational training officers and education project managers. The course is aimed at empowering existing and aspiring educational leaders who need to develop law skills.
