FTC08 - Navigating SA's Education Laws
Developing an in-depth understanding of laws and policies governing the South African education system
All public schools and most institutions in South Africa involved in the creation and implementation of education policy are classified as organs of state and must therefore comply with all the provisions of the Bill of Rights. Various laws regulate the manner in which public schools are meant to discharge their duties. In order to discharge their statutory duties properly, educators need to have some understanding of the principles of education and administrative laws. If they act contrary to the principles of administrative law, then decisions made by them may be set aside by the courts. The course is designed, hopefully, to achieve a higher objective and that is to equip educators to make reasonable, lawful and fair decisions at source
